TL;DR
At Movement For Everyone, we teach one modality per session — either Gyrotonic or Pilates — and choose the system that best serves your body. Pilates here isn’t about big reformer sweat-fests; it’s about closed-chain strength, stability, and clarity in movement. Our focus is always you, not the method.
Why Pilates at a GYROTONIC® studio? At Movement For Everyone, people sometimes ask why we don’t offer reformer classes as part of our Pilates program. It’s a fair question.
When I recently spoke with someone interested in trying Pilates, I gave her my honest recommendation: if she wanted to dive into Pilates as a complete system, she might be better served at The Pilates School, where they teach classical Pilates in its entirety.
At our studio, Pilates plays a more focused role. We teach one modality per session — either Gyrotonic or Pilates — and choose the system based on what will best serve the person in front of us.
We use Pilates through two lenses:
Contemporary Pilates, which highlights how the body responds to compressive forces (closed-chain exercises) to build strength and stability.
The Gyrotonic approach, where sometimes a Pilates principle can provide a more concise way to embody a movement idea.
What you won’t find here is a bank of reformers built for trembling sweat-fests (though those can be fun and effective in their own right!). Instead, our commitment is to the human being in front of us, not to the methods themselves.
As longtime client Beth L. once shared:
“Harriet is not only a pleasure to work with but I’ve never met a trainer who is more passionate about using the Gyrotonic Method to help her clients live and move with vitality.”
We agree wholeheartedly — and also know that Pilates, thoughtfully applied, can be a powerful complement.

HOUSEKEEPING
Rewards Program Update
We’ve updated our rewards program terms. Harriet is manually converting 2025 points, and everyone’s totals will be refreshed by October. Thanks for your patience! You can review the updated terms here →.
This is an off-week for street cleaning around the studio. Street sweeping is generally the second and fourth weekdays of the month, with the specific day depending on the street. Allow time for a pleasant walk for easier (and free!) parking on the Avenues from Anza to Fulton Streets, or toward California and Lake Streets.
First time with us? Begin with a 75-minute Initial Individual Appointment — the best way to create your personal program.
Prefer a specific time? Email info@movementforeveryone.com and we’ll do our best to fit you in.
We’re all looking forward to seeing you this week!
Warmly,
Harriet
