Studio Schedule Week of 6/15/2025 | Fathering: Slowing Down and Getting Curious
Sophia stands on a rocky outcrop in Aspen, arms wide and heart lifted to the sky. Behind her, snow-capped peaks rise into mist. The pose is part offering, part release — a dancer’s gesture echoing the wild stillness of the mountains around her.

THOUGHTS
For every session at the studio, we come prepared with a plan… then let our expectations go in order to meet the body in front of us. I prepared some light Father’s Day humor for this week’s email, but the world seems just too heavy to be carried by dad jokes.
The tragic assassinations in Minnesota; escalating conflict in the Middle East between Israel, Palestine, and now also Iran; and watching political leaders pit protestors, police, and soldiers against each other as pawns in a political power grab are weighing on us all. They also bring to mind how relationships — whether between nations, citizens, or families — have layers of history and nuance that are difficult to untangle.
Men have so much to unravel in regards to what it means to father. I imagine it can be hard to create a sense of identity separate from the cliches of domination and force. Author Garrett Bucks has written a very poignant Father’s Day essay from the fatherly perspective, and I feel like he says it best:
Fatherhood discourse is a mess because masculinity discourse is a mess because patriarchy is a mess. And yeah, that’s the kind of sentence that would probably cause all the manosphere fellas to roll their eyes, but for their sake I wish that wasn’t the case. Because jeez, what a terrible bill of goods we’ve all been sold. Don’t show any weakness. Be strong, which is to say be perennially afraid. Act like you have something to prove. Bottle it up and explode. Take other people for granted, because care is somebody else’s business.
So I’m offering space for dads to approach parenting from the way we approach our work with the body: slow down, get curious, and put your ego aside, embracing the vulnerability required to learn something new. Even when we’re doing a pretty good job, time is continually throwing new hurdles we’ve never encountered before, so there’s always something else to learn and understand better. Such is the journey of life. And like in movement, the work is never done—we just keep showing up, learning, and doing our best to meet the moment.
CLASS SPOTLIGHT:
Monday 12:00 PM Hybrid GYROTONIC® with Harriet
Mondays at 12:00 PM just got a little more grounded. Our new midday hybrid GYROTONIC® class is now underway, and this month’s focus is on deep core integration and floor work. We begin with the handles and hamstring series, then build toward the strengthening aspects of the method — all while supporting ease and clarity through your spine.
It’s a great way to reset for the week and reconnect with your body’s internal support systems.
